Healthy Wholemeal Bread

Preheat the oven to 200oC ( 400oF).Gas mark 8
Grease a 1lb loaf tin

Method:
Sift the flours ,baking soda and salt into a mixing bowl

Add the bran porridge oats and sugar and stir to mix

Beat the eggs and buttermilk together in a bowl and pour into the dry ingredients

Turn the dough into the prepared loaf tin

Bake for 40mins until well risen and cooked

Leave in the tin to cool for 10mins then turn out onto a wire tray

Leave to cool before completely before slicing

This bread makes a valuable contribution to the energy content of a healthy diet. It is high in fibre and has no added fat. The sugar included is optional

Ingredients

  • 175g ( 6oz) Neill's wholemeal flour
  • 110g ( 4oz ) Neill's Golden Fleece
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 Tabsp bran
  • 1 Tabsp porridge oats
  • 2 Teasp baking soda
  • 1 medium egg
  • 250ml ( ½ pt) Buttermilk
  • ½ teasp brown sugar ( optional)
